CAPIROTADA NO. 1 Reception w/ the artist

Aug 02 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Join us in the gallery on August 2nd, from 7pm-9pm, to celebrate the opening of Israel Alejandro Garcia Garcia’s opening.

Israel Alejandro Garcia Garcia’s exhibition, CAPIROTADA No.1 at the Crossroads Hotel, offers a powerful narrative on the immigrant experience in the Americas, exploring how cultural identity is maintained amidst displacement and hostile environments. Drawing from personal experiences of migration and the intricate dynamics of ‘documentation’ and border politics, the multimedia exhibition explores the fight against gentrification and the concept of boundaries.

Through border fencing, collages of photographs layered with video from local archives, childhood memories, and everyday experiences, Garcia’s site-specific installations deliver a raw and immersive glimpse into the lives of marginalized communities. This compelling exhibition educates and informs, bringing attention to the often-overlooked struggles faced by these communities.

Garcia’s work emphasizes the collective experience of human migration, celebrating resilience and learning from historical injustices. His work confronts contemporary ethical, social, and political questions, reflecting on the past while addressing today’s political climate. CAPIROTADA No.1 draws attention to immigrant experiences, BIPOC histories, and systemic segregation, offering a renewed cultural visual language that honors these narratives.
