Introducing The Ink Project at Crossroads Hotel – an unfiltered look into the art of the tattoo. In this series, we host one of Kansas City’s most loved tattoo artists – someone who’s left their mark on the industry – literally. Get to know some of our city’s coolest creators, from their ink to their insight. For this session, we welcome Mikey Wheeler.
Mikey Wheeler is a Kansas City based professional tattooer, illustrator, and musician. He specializes in highly technical, large scale tattooing and works with an extensive and diverse clientele. He is also a freelance designer and illustrator, regularly taking commission projects for album artwork, merchandise design, and custom paintings. Mikey frequently collaborates with The Crossroads Hotel, most notably designing the wallpaper for the guest rooms with his wife Megan.
This time, it is all about the work. A moving exhibition.
No flash. No sign-ups. The artist works live in the space, developing major pieces simply for the sake of the work itself – all on display. Guests are invited to observe the process as it happens and take part in an open, no-holds-barred conversation around the artist’s career, creative influences, and the ways their practice extends beyond the needle – into music, painting, and forms that resist easy categorization.
Whether you’re here to witness the making of new work or to engage with tattooing as an artistic medium, The Ink Project continues to create space for dialogue, process, and community in the heart of Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District.
